Thundercats paintings

3 Attachment(s)
Hello all,

Here are a few watercolor paintings I did of the Thundercats during my spare time. I wanted to give them a bit of a "realistic" look while still trying to be faithful to the original cartoon design. Hope you like them.

Thanks :)

WOW. Holy crap those are amazing!!! Panthro is a bit mean looking but other than that, these look like they could have been box art in the 80's!!! This is actually some of the best TCats fan art ive ever seen!

AlexofThundera 04-04-2012 01:22 PM

That Mummra is fantastic!

Wilycub 04-05-2012 11:21 AM

Thank you for the kind words! :) I'm flattered that you guys liked my work so much. I'll try and post more.

Kregermeister 04-05-2012 11:23 AM

Do a Bengali and watch my head explode!

Mongor 04-05-2012 12:11 PM

Those are amazing. Any for sale? PM if the Lion-O/Tygra painting is for sale. That would look great in my mancave.

Yardbird 04-06-2012 03:09 AM

The paintings look awesome.

Wilycub 04-10-2012 11:45 PM

"Yardbird": Thank you for the compliments :)

"Mongor": Thank you. Actually I did these quite a few years ago. After scanning them, I stored the original artwork in one of my art folders. The problem is, I don't remember which folder it was and I have like a gazillion folders! Let me search for the Lion-O/Tygra painting and once I have located it, I will PM you.

"Kregermeister": It's like you are reading my mind! Bengali was next on my list to paint. Watch this space for him, soon. :)

ThyVipera 04-12-2012 09:07 PM

WOW, those are amazing. love your style

Thank you all for your wonderful compliments! I'm extremely flattered. :)

Here is Bengali. (since "Kregermeister" asked so nicely and also because I've always been curious to see exploding heads! LOL!! :D

Eclipse 04-15-2012 12:35 AM

Bengali's definitely my favorite of the group. Just great.

Kregermeister 04-15-2012 01:08 AM

STOP THE WORLD!

THAT IS THE MOST AMAZING THING I HAVE EVER SEEN! (HEAD EXPLODES!!!) PS - if you wanna see a great head explode, check out a clip from Scanners on youtube!

I would kill to have that drawing in a frame! Seriously, no joke, for realz, not for play play..... That is seriously flawlessly more epic than the paintings in the sistine chapel. They should replace that (its outdated anyway) with your painting of Thundercats lol.

PSS - I would trade you my kidney for that should you ever uh.... need a kidney.... for..... decoration....?

Mongor 04-15-2012 02:10 AM

I agree. That Bengali is quite amazing. You know I'm interested in your Lion-O and Tygra, I would be interested in Bengali as well if he was for sale, of course if Kregermeister took a pass on it. :)
You are very talented and these paintings are amazing.

Wilycub 04-15-2012 10:14 PM

"Kregermeister" : LOL!! :D You really cracked me up, sir. Thank you so much for the compliments. I'm incredibly flattered! I really don't think I deserve all these praises as there are far better artists than me out there. But I am very glad that everyone here likes my humble attempts.

"Mongor": Thank you. I haven't quite really made up my mind regarding selling the painting. But if I do decide to sell, I'll give first preference to you and "Kregermeister".

Thank you everybody for the great feedback. Your praises, comments and criticisms are what inspire me to continue doing such paintings. I'll try and do more Thundercats art whenever I can and post them here.

Mongor 04-15-2012 10:25 PM

Being the best means nothing. Believe me, there's always someone better at anything you can do. Having the ability to be comfortable and satisfied with your own talents is the first part to success. Being able to have other people enjoy your work, whatever it may be, is the other. You my friend have both. Take the complement. :)

Nah, you TOTALLY deserve these. Why? Cause your art sticks out. Every joe blow from fan fourms makes good atempts at making good artwork in a modern kinda update. While cool, it doesnt work for me.

YOUR style however, is a throwback to oldschool product ad's and vintage cross sell art. THAT is amazing that you can make something new, but keep it so original. Your style reminds me alot of some of the old He-Man packages mixed with the Thundercats playset boxes.

Yeah if you ever sell your art, I might be interested in Bengali if I have some cash laying around at said time :D. You should honestly consider getting a table at Thundercon and Powercon and selling some prints.

Mongor 04-22-2012 12:25 PM

I've always wondered why Lynx-O has a bird feeder on his wrist. :)

mate - that is some superb work!! im an artist myself, and have to say, if these were on the boxart i'd buy just because of what is on the outside! even if the boxes are empty!! FANTASTIC WORK. please, if any chance, would you upload the wily twins and perhaps a jaga too?

adssse 10-23-2012 08:24 PM

Thank you. I'm flattered! :) I have always loved the LJN products box-arts. They inspire me a lot. I am definitely planning on doing paintings of Jaga and the wily twins (and maybe Snarf?). Just have to find the time to squeeze them in my daily schedule.

Just amazing. You've really captured the "essence" of the characters in a way that I haven't seen before. Just breathtaking. I dunno about anyone else, but I am interested in seeing anything you do. I'd also love to be pointed in the direction of larger scans to use as backgrounds and such.

Just awesome work.

Carnivac 12-25-2012 06:56 AM

I love these. They look realistic but still very much like they did in the show.

Wilycub 06-28-2013 02:04 AM

I did these two for a very dear friend of mine. They are illustrations based on the Tygra and Cheetara "Hard Hero Statues" done in the style of LJN box art. These are both digital paintings but since I didn't want to start a separate thread, I am posting them in my watercolor paintings thread. :)

These are gorgeous. I could tell what you were going for before even reading your post. You've done a great job of emulating the old box art!

adssse 06-28-2013 09:13 PM

Amazing! You have serious talent.
