the stone wasn't holding the whole Astral Plane together. The crew confirmed it wasn't destroyed so it's still there without the stone.

I think it was just affecting that area near the doorway. Maybe Lion-O was subconsciously making everything fall apart since and it was just doing what he expected it to do since he's the one that was using it.
