The target audience is 6-11 year olds. Don't forget that. and most of the kids watching will not have seen the OS. They won't know the characters.

How are they "handling" L/C fans right now after the ending of episode 13?

Of course ratings are important. But for that to even be a credible argument you'd have to assume that B/P fans are the majority of the audience and that they'd all quit the show if it didn't happen. Which I'd be more than willing to bet isn't the case.
