The Los Angeles Times has posted an article in which they recap some of what The Rock and GI Joe Retaliation director Jon M Chu said at CinemaCon. Apparently we will get to see a more emotional, dramatic side to the Joes, not just all out combat(and according to the article, increased emphasis on physical stunts). According to Chu, "I think people will see a whole new face of Dwayne when they get to see him perform some pretty dramatic stuff," the filmmaker said. "OK, he doesn't shed tears. But he sheds punches."

One wonders if this "pretty dramatic stuff" includes any member of Cobra getting The Peoples' Elbow.....

In addition, apparently The Rock has been refered to by his peers as "franchise viagra". Whether he can reinvigorate and elevate the GI Joe brand for more than 4 hours remains to be seen but more and more directors smell what he's cooking as GI Joe is not the 1st, nor the last franchise the Brahma Bull has been sent in to save. Here's what he had to say:

"The goal was never to find franchises, go in and take them over," said Johnson, who was in Las Vegas to accept CinemaCon's Action Star of the Decade award. "The first question is, 'Well, can I come in and help elevate a movie?' With this film, it was an opportunity I wanted to grab by the throat and make right. I wanted it to veer off from the first."
