I kind of saw that as just overall poor writing quality on the staffs part - of which there seems to be a lot of at times.

In "The Pit" Pumyra made it seem like the Cat slaves were out for Lion-O's blood. Then, when we actually see the slaves react to Lion-O, no anger or resentment at all.
Does Pumyra have some special ability to take in anger akin to Heath Ledgers character in "The Order" taking in sin?
