Okay, I had a girlfriend that always used to make this argument. She felt strongly about people's right to platonic relationships, and I mostly agreed with her. But if you want to be platonic, you do have a responsibility to behave platonically. You have to make sure your own actions aren't romantic. We had several cases where she invited guys over she thought were cool and they thought she was trying to hook up with them because of how she had behaved (she was never big for personal space) only to discover her boyfriend at home.

Yes, the other person shouldn't jump too far ahead, that's not your fault, but you also should behave responsibly. Just because they're wrong doesn't mean you're not. You're both perfectly capable of being wrong together.
