I believe George Lucas had it all figured out before he started filming the first three movies, just like he'd like us all to believe

But in any case, the Leia/Han couple was established way before anyone even suspected Leia and Luke were related, and after many Leia/Luke hints. I do remember Luke's smug grin to Han after Leia kissed him on the lips, was it at the beginning of Empire Strikes Back, or at the end of A New Hope?
