L/C has not had some mountain of hints. They had one seen in Petlars that could have been romantic and one in Into the Astral Plane that could have been platonic, well from Cheetara's point of view.

You know whats funny? Hermione and Cheetara played very similar roles in the hero's lives. They both supported the lead and gave him confidence. Hermione was there for Harry to the fullest, never leaving his side. Heck Hermione even kissed harry on the cheek at the end of the 4th book. Yet they did not get together.
