they weren't using technology in the recent past. that flashback was set in the very distant past. the thundercats at one time did possess technology but it was lost over time and the present day thundercats thought it was just a myth before the fall of thundera.
the first flashback was set during a time when the thundercats still possessed technology. in the other flashback you can already see that they were losing there knowledge of technology.
