Because it wasn't the recent past. It was probably farther back and these were the ancestors to what later became eaches parent. Either it's that, or it's a pretty big plothole that'll need to be covered.

They did say in the opening episodes that the book of omens has stories of technology with the cats, but it was nice to see it in action. =D

All around a pretty awesome episode!
And I still can't believe they went with such a blatant innuendo line about Cheetara helping Lion-O make his "Sword" work.
