Courtesy of TFW2005 member Type-R and Autobase Aichi, we now have a small gallery of photos of the newly released Alternity Goldbug. This toy is a redeco of the previous Alternity Bumblebee, with metallic paint similiar to Alternity Cliff. This toy is an Asian Market Exclusive release, and is available currently in stock at BigBadToyStore and TFSource.

Do you like the shiny paint job? Do you wish the prior Alternity Bumblebee had such a paint job? Does the lack of a remolded head kill off any interest for you? Share those thoughts and any others you have regarding the toy, and discuss away with your fellow TFW2005 members by clicking the Discuss link below.

Some new in-hand images and perhaps more importantly first fan impressions of the Maketoy's Excavator and Bulldozer have been posted over on ACToys. There's a whole lot of images on the far side of that link, and also a (Chinese language) review which 2005 Boards member Bystander has translated some key points of. Key things coming out in the first impressions are:

Vehicle modes "concise and neat", decos mirroring nicely the real life construction vehicles that these two are based on. Not many exposed alternate mode parts.

Excavator - shovel only moves forward-backward, no side-to-side movement.
Bulldozer - plow does not feature functioning hydraulic cylinders and poseability of it is "pretty bad".

Transformation - described as being on a similar level to your typical official Deluxe Class release.

Robot modes - limited head movement, good movement in the legs (ball jointed knees and feet). Both have backpacks of vehicle mode parts.

Are these going to be the third party Constructicons for your collection? Click the link above to see the original thread on ACToys, or read on for our mirror and Bystander's full translation.

Reports are coming in that thanks to Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Paramount has achieved global Box-Office supremacy for 2011.

Despite their largely successful Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part II, Warner Bros. had to settle to the second place as Paramount dominated the world crowning as the “world's most successful studio”.

"This achievement reflects the combined efforts of our entire team across the globe and the careful process by which we select the projects and partners we believe in," said Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO Brad Grey. "We produce pictures that aspire to entertain audiences around the world, while at the same time we have sought to find innovative ways to reach moviegoers in this changing entertainment environment." The studio will release Brad Pitt zombie flick World War Z, Sacha Baron Cohen's latest The Dictator, toy franchise sequel GI Joe: Retaliation and a fourth Paranormal Activity film in 2012.

Meanwhile in Hong Kong, Transformers: Dark of the Moon was crowned box office king of 2011 in Hong Kong, but more surprising was the record-breaking success of You Are the Apple of My Eye, the little Taiwan romcom that could, which took over the title of the highest grossing Chinese-language film ever in the territory.

The third installment of the Michael Bay toy-inspired franchise accumulated HK$84.7 million ($10.9 million) in a three-month run during the summer of 2011, almost doubling the HK$48 million gross of its 2009 predecessor, Revenge of the Fallen, according to the Hong Kong Motion Pictures Industry Association. The last chapter of the Harry Potter saga, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, took HK$76.8 million for second place.

Congratulations Hasbro, Paramount and Michael Bay! And we at TFW2005 would like to thank all the fans who supported the movie franchise, for without you, this achievement is not possible.

Botcon has updated their website with their next 2012 Botcon Exclusive. This time, it's Heroic Decepticon Soundwave! This figure is based on the Universe Ironhide mold with a new head. He also appears to be sporting a Cold Slither logo. Which is a nice little nod to G.I.Joe fans.

Alas, he is missing his headband. Fear not, for Botcon has updated their Twitter that the headband will be available at the Club store!

Heroic Soundwave joins the already revealed Shattered Glass Tracks and Classics Gigatron figures from the 2012 Invasion Botcon Boxset. Yet to be seen are Shattered Glass Treadshot and Ultra Magnus and a Classics version of Metalhawk.

Botcon will be held in Dallas, TX April 26th-29th at the Hyatt Regency.

Click on the title bar to view the pics and head over to the 2005 Boards!

Store chain Meijers is currently undergoing a reset of their store shelves, and 2005 Boards member Cleazer reports that some interesting tags are turning up on the shelves:

Transformers Bot Shot asst - $3.99
Transformers Big Rig Bot Shot asst - $7.99
Transformers Cyberverse Vehicle asst - $19.99
Transformers Prime Energon helmet - $19.99
Transformers Prime Powerizers asst - $19.99

A couple of these are things we already know of - The Cyberverse Vehicle assortment, per slides shown by Hasbro at SDCC and NYCC, is the Transformers Prime Starhammer with Wheeljack set. The Energon Helmet was previously indicated on information from the NTF Archive, and sounds like a new role play helmet for Transformers Prime.

Of the others, the Powerizers and the Bot Shots are unknowns. One might speculate that the Powerizers are the successors to the Power Bots, but we're drawing a blank on what a Bot Shot is. For now though, nothing is known, so click on the discuss link to join in the speculation on our 2005 Boards.

3rd Party Group Headrobots, has stopped by the 2005 Boards to announce some new projects and give us some updates on previous announced items.

The update includes:
  • Centurion - Based off of their previous Headmaster releases, this project shows three heads you can use with your existing G1 Fort Max's smaller figures. It will feature a US style head, Japanese style head and a Bonus Power Sword. This item is a limited release item and Headrobots isn't expecting big sales from this so the retail price is higher. Preorders should be up within 24 hours.
  • Big Road - An unofficial Trailbreaker figure, looks very similar to the G1 Cartoon model
  • Drone - Conversion kit to change Hunt for the Decepticons Tomahawk into an updated version of Whirl
  • Blood DX - A follow up to their previos Bludgeon upgrade, this kit will upgrade your movie deluxe Bludgeon figure into a skeletal warrior.
Headrobots states that after Centurion is released, Blood DX or Drone will be their next release.

Reposting this bit of news here so it doesn't get lost in the big "OMG Botcon registration!" rush.

With the Botcon registration pages live, a pair of small pictures were posted of the complete Transformers Invasion convention exclusive set, revealing the remaining two toys that will be in the box. The pictures are large enough to tease at the toys used and the decos, but small enough to leave us in suspense for the full-on reveals in the coming days.

Shattered Glass Ultra Magnus seen here is a recolor of Reveal the Shield Generation 2 Optimus Prime, with colors inspired by his Diaclone ancestor Powered Convoy. The hood also has some mild flame details in a possible callback to Movie Optimus Prime... or possibly the Optimus Prime this mold was recolored from.

Metalhawk, the Autobot from the Classicsverse, is a reuse of the Generations Thunderwing mold. The robot mode is based on the design of Generation 1 Metalhawk's Pretender shell, while the jet mode is sort of inspired by the vehicle mode of the original toy - there's a few differences in there though.

Share your thoughts on the final two on our 2005 Boards by hitting the discuss button.

Botcon have revealed a sketch of what the new head on their convention exclusive Metalhawk will look like on Twitter. Surprisingly, the new head is not based on a robot form at all - but on the human head of the original Metalhawk's Pretender shell. The main body was already based on the Pretender Shell rather than the inner robot, but there was some speculation on what the head might be - with some thoughts that it might be the robotic head concept used for the 2010-11 Club Comic.

How do you feel about the first new "human" Transformer since 1989? Sound off on our 2005 Boards!

Fan favorite artist Alex Milne has updated his Deviantart account with his version of Siren from IDW's new upcoming comic series, More Than Meets The Eye. Alex goes onto elaborate in his post;

so i figured since he is on the cover to issue 2, i'd show him off here as well
this is the design i came up with for Siren. this time i used more of the TF Prime look for him then WFC. there is a little amount of WFC, but its more a prime based look.
i think the thing i liked most about working on this, was i had this toy as a kid. i remember all the times playing with him. he was my favourite of the second wave of headmaster toys.
well, back to work
enjoy

iGear have updated their Facebook page with a few pictures of two potential recolors of their past releases - a black version of Rager, and a Herbie inspired version of their Bee! The Herbie Bumblebee is a cool looking piece and a great little tribute to the central car from the much beloved Herbie movies.

Black Rager, on the other hand, is a version of iGear's not-Huffer Rager - but in black. It's a possible homage / callback to the E-Hobby version of Huffer from their Minibots pack that also gave us another white Bumblebee - Bug Bite.

Click on the link above to see the rest of the pics, then discuss this news on our 2005 Boards.

News reaches us from ACToys that there's a new Botcon toy revealed. This one is Octopunch, based on Hunt for the Decepticons Sea Spray. We've only got vehicle mode pictures, but it's clear from these that the deco has been chosen to evoke the Pretender shell of the original in robot mode as with Metalhawk.

This new report lends more credibility to a rumored list of exclusives posted a while ago over on Seibertron, which named a whole bunch of additional at-show toys including Octopunch, and also named Metalhawk as a reuse of the Thunderwing mold long before he was unveiled. Could the following also be coming soon:

Spinister - Hunt for the Decepticons Tomahawk; Kickoff - Reveal the Shield Jazz; Shattered Glass Swindle - Universe Classics Hound; Shattered Glass Junkions - Reveal the Shield Wreck Gar / Generations Junkheap

If there is one area where Transformers Dark of the Moon succeeded in wowing everybody, it was the special effects. Between the incredible action sequences and excellent use of 3D, the film was a feast for the eyes. In recognition of this, the Visual Effects Society have nominated Transformers Dark of the Moon for five awards at their 10th annual VES Awards ceremony on 7 February. The five awards that Dark of the Moon is norminated for are:

Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Feature Motion Picture.
Outstanding Created Environment in a Live Action Feature Motion Picture - for 155 Wacker Drive.
Outstanding Virtual Cinematography in a Live Action Feature Motion Picture.
Outstanding Models in a Feature Motion Picture - for The Driller.
Outstanding Compositing in a Feature Motion Picture.

Transformers the Ride also received a nomination, for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Special Venue Project.

Of course, as always there is some stiff competition. Check out the full listings as reported by Hollywood Reporter to see what Dark of the Moon is up against in competing for those rewards.

A new promo video for Transformers the Ride has been released by Universal Studios Hollywood. This one is an in-universe promo featuring General Morshower addressing us as the audience directly. The video ends with a teaser saying "The game begins February 4. Enlist now." and then directs you to the official website for the ride, Prepare for battle. Could this be an alternate reality game to promote the ride similar to what the first two movies had?

A small tidbit of information from Gamasutra now. Jagex, who are making the Transformers Prime inspired Transformers Universe MMO, have had a majority stake in their organization purchased by New York based Insight Ventures. According to the writeup on Gamasutra, this will not potentially have a massive impact on Jagex's deliverability for the Transformers Universe MMO, far from it - the implication is that with Insight's latest investment Jagex might "accelerate" the launch of some of its products. Hopefully this also includes the Transformers Universe MMO.

Remember that gray prototype of a third party Megatron we saw a while back? On Facebook a group called Toyworld.jp have posted some new pictures of a color prototype. Named Hegemon, this piece is a third party Megatron completely designed from the ground up, with Masterpiece styled aesthetics. It's a pretty big piece too, shown here in a size comparison with the TFC Toys Hercules team members and towering over them just like Megatron was always drawn comparatively larger than the Constructicons in the Generation 1 cartoon. Watch this space for more information on this piece as it comes to us.

Thanks to an ebay auction we now have our first look at the upcoming rumored Octopunch exclusive to this year's BotCon convention. Octopunch will be a repaint of HFTD Seaspray, however it will be lacking a remolded head, instead the Seaspray head will be painted in the same color scheme to fit with the homage.

BotCon 2012 will be taking place April 26th-April 29th in Dallas, Texas.
