USA Today has the very first look at the upcoming 3 3/4" (presumably) figure for The Amazing Spider-Man. Here's some choice quotes from the article

"The first action figure from next year's The Amazing Spider-Man movie will be on display this week at Comic-Con. Fans will be able to check him out starting Wednesday during preview night at the Hasbro booth on the San Diego Convention Center floor.

The figure is also sculpted in a way to pick up all the details from the movie Spider-Man. The bottom of his feet were tweaked to look the same as the film versions, and he reflects Garfield's leaner physique.

The new toy Spidey also has 20 points of articulation so kids can twist his arms, legs, head and other parts and "get him into great Spider-Man poses," Stafford says.

The Playstation Blog has revealed two upcoming Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception Nathan Drake figures.

ESC Toys
Our partnership with ESC Toys has been a long, long time in the making. As of this week, the UNCHARTED Nathan Drake limited edition vinyl figure is finally available for pre-order! The 7″ vinyl figure is a combination of vinyl and PVC materials along with minor articulation and is based on the stylized translation of Nathan Drake by Erick Scarecrow. There will be two colorways: the OG “original” colorway which is standard edition and the “Naughty Dog” colorway which is limited to 500pcs worldwide. The pot has been sweetened a little since each figure is packed with a PlayStation Store voucher code redeemable for exclusive UNCHARTED 3 downloadable content! All figures are scheduled to ship mid October 2011, if not earlier – You can follow @ESCToy on Twitter to stay up to date on the latest!

Mezco Toyz Nathan Drake Figure – Booth #3445
We’ve partnered with the award-winning Mezco Toyz to release a 6-inch scale figure of Nathan Drake based off of the iconic cover image from UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception. We worked closely with Mezco’s Design Team to create a figure that goes beyond a simple likeness but embodies the very “essence” of Drake. From his AK-74, holster, and bandolier, to his ring necklace, everything is perfectly game-accurate. The figure also comes with a sturdy, textured “sand” base to complete the display.

The Mezco Toys Nathan Drake Figure is scheduled to be available in the Fourth Quarter of 2011 – and will be available for purchase at MezcoToyz.com and finer retailers.

Square Enix Play Arts -Kai- Action Figure – Booth #3829
The Square Enix Play Arts -Kai- action figures caught our eye last year as we were roaming around the SDCC exhibit hall. Just one year later, it’s awesome to come back to SDCC being able to reveal we are working with the team to create a high quality collectible Nathan Drake figure!

The release date hasn’t been set, but we’ve been able to work with our partners at Square Enix to give you this sneak peek at the figure, which features 21 points of articulation.

More catch-up from Koto. The Kotobukiya Facebook Page has added new photos for their upcoming Marvel Comics X-Force Archangel Fine Art Statue.

X-Force is the hottest mutant team right now in the Marvel Universe, with the current Uncanny X-Force series burning up the shelves everywhere. Teaming up the most vicious and morally flexible heroes, Wolverine leads the ultimate strike force willing to do anything, at any time to protect the world’s mutant population. Fourth in a series of all-new X-Force Fine Art Statues is the high-flying carefree mutant turned killing machine Archangel! One of the original five X-Men (debuting back in 1963), Warren Worthington III was a rich boy with white feathered wings who came to be known as Angel. He worked alongside Cyclops, Beast, and the rest for years as X-Men before creating the team known as X-Factor. At that time the evil mastermind Apocalypse orchestrated an attack that resulted in the removal of Warren’s organic wings, which the villain replaced with techno-organic wings based on celestial technology. Under the control of Apocalypse Warren became the soldier Death, though he later came to his senses and returned to the side of good. Forever altered by his experiences, the once happy go lucky Angel became the brooding Archangel, whose deadly bladed wings and fierce battle fury made him a perfect fit for the new X-Force!

Archangel swoops into battle, touching down on the shattered landscape and ready to spring into flight at a moment’s notice; the aerial mutant rests on his toes with muscles tensed for action as you can see through his skin-tight uniform. Warren is captured in an iconic comic book pose half-turned with arms extended forward and at his side, with his amazingly detailed metal wings (all four of them!) spread out behind him. Utilizing the stealth of X-Force, Archangel’s uniform is black with silver effects that match the color of his techno-organic wings. The stark color scheme is broken up only by Warren’s face (tinged blue by Apocalypse’s meddling), red eyes, and blonde eyebrows.

Archangel’s wingtips tower nearly 18 inches high, and he’s in perfect 1/6th scale with the other X-Force members X-23, Deadpool, and Warpath. Sculpted by Erick Sosa, the dark hero is mounted on a unique georama base depicting a smashed brick-covered column. Catch this incredible Archangel while you can!

Doing a little Koto catch-up here. Kotobukiya's Facebook Page has posted photos of their Marvel Bishoujo Mystique Statue.

A Kotobukiya Japanese import! The popular Marvel Bishoujo collection (combining iconic superheroines and villains with traditional Japanese stylings) continues to bring you the amazing beauties of the Marvel Comics universe as you’ve never seen them before. Last time we saw the ninja warrior Elektra, and sneaking up behind her in the lineup is one of the most famous, and beautiful, mutants ever, Mystique! The mysterious blue-skinned mutant first appeared in the pages of Ms. Marvel in 1978, and ever since she’s been making waves. With the ability to shapeshift and mimic anyone, Mystique is incredibly powerful and dangerous. She puts her own interests above anyone else’s and at times has worked on the side of good as well as that of evil. Taking on her natural blue-skinned form, Mystique triumphantly appears in the Japanese Bishoujo (pretty girl) style based on an original character reinterpretation by renowned illustrator Shunya Yamashita.

Perhaps more than any other Marvel character, Mystique walks the fine line between beauty and deadliness. The self-serving mutant kneels on both legs, seductively arching her back just for you. One hand gracefully adjusts her long hair while the other casually holds a submachine gun... just in case. Highly detailed sculpting brings Mystique’s allure to life, from the subtle wrinkles on her revealing skin-tight suit to the skulls of her belt, the belt sash that pools on the ground in front of and behind her, and the delicate strands of hair that fall across her beautiful Bishoujo styled face. Naturally, Mystique appears in her striking blue skin tone and dark red hair that contrasts nicely with her bright white costume.

Sculpted by Goutaro Takeuchi, Mystique is 1/7th scale kneeling on an exclusive figural base. Capture the elusive Mystique while you can!

Available February 2012.

And one last piece of catch-up news from Koto. Over at the Kotobukiya Facebook Page, they have added photos for an upcoming Star Wars ARTFX+ C-3PO and R2-D2 2-Pack.

A Kotobukiya Japanese import! Star Wars ARTFX+ Statues bring you all of the quality and detailing that you expect from an ARTFX release in a great smaller scale that’s perfect for collecting! The new collection has exploded with such greats as Boba Fett, Darth Vader, Imperial Stormtroopers, and Republic Clone Troopers (the latter two in easy to collect two packs)! Up next is the most famous droid duo of all time, C-3PO & R2-D2!

From the very first frames of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, the stuffy protocol droid and his plucky astromech companion captured the hearts and minds of viewers around the world. They couldn’t be more different but somehow through Imperial traps, Rebel celebrations, and forest moons they managed to influence the course of history. For the first time C-3PO and R2-D2 join the ARTFX+ line in this exclusive two pack. Both droids are sculpted to perfection, capturing all of the interesting mechanical details that made them so famous from C-3PO’s hydraulic joints and exposed wiring to R2-D2’s intricate paneling. Both heroic droids come with alternate parts for different display options: R2-D2 can be posed standing upright on two legs or leaning back on three while C-3PO has poseable arms and swappable hands! Finally, like the other ARTFX+ Star Wars figures the droids have magnets in their feet for display on included bases.

ARTFX+ Statues are fun-to-assemble pre-painted snap-fit kits that can be easily put together in seconds without glue or modeling skill. C-3PO and R2-D2 stand just over 6 inches and nearly 4 inches tall respectively (1/10th scale). Display them with the members of the Stormtrooper 2 Pack to recreate the Death Star Control Room scene from A New Hope!

Ever since Warner Home Video released Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths back in February 2009, DC Fans have been waiting for Mattel to release the members of the Crime Syndicate of Amerika into their DC Universe Classics line. It was at this year's Toy Fair that the waiting finally paid off when Mattel unvailed it's Crime Syndicate of Amerika 5-pack, containing the 5 main members of the alternate earth criminal organization!

Today, thanks to our friends over at The Fwoosh, we have our first in-depth look at this hotly anticipated set, the last of the Wal-Mart exclusive DCUC offerings, which should be hitting shelves some time later this summer!

The first figure contained within the set is Ultra Man (El-Kal), the leader of the Crime Syndicate. He is a vast improvement over the original version released in a 2-pack back in 2007. He sports a great head sculpt with lots of detail and although his costume is basic in nature, the colors look great and his chest logo is crisp and clean. He sports silver ovals on his belt, but they don't hinder articulation one bit. Basically, this version of Ultra Man puts the older one to shame. He's a great, modern take on the character that looks great alongside the other members of the Crime Syndicate. Articulation is basic and he has no accessories.

Second within the set is Superwoman (Lois Lane), who makes use of the standard Wonder Woman body and is a figure who turned out better than I thought she would. Her head sculpt looks great, allowing her to appear both tough and feminine at the same time. She has newly sculpted boots and a nice, soft cape that match her comic counterpart very well. The sculpt on the cape is very intricate with a lot of fold lines and cinching; it is also the perfect length as it only reaches down to about her belt line. Again, articulation is standard for a DCUC figure and she comes with no accessories. Still, she looks amazing!

Next, we have Power Ring. A figure who's costume matches his comic counterpart well, even though some fans have been complaining his boots should be white. To be honest, I've seen him wear the green boots in the comics and, I agree with The Fwoosh when they say the green boots simply look better than white ones would have. Again, head sculpt is awesome, making Power Ring appear very ticked off about something. I have only really started to warm up to these angery faces of late, and Power Rings has to be the best thus far (sorry Sinestro Corps Batman). His look is great, paint is flawless and crisp. No accessories. Standard DCUC articulation.

Up next we have Johnny Quick (Johnny Chambers), the anti-hero version of Mr. Barry Allen. Done in his classic style, this figure is simply awesome! His coloration is superb, all of the lines on his costume are crisp. He has some subtle wash on the red, the yellow really pops and he has actual boots, not just painted lines. The head sculpt is great and features a real smug look and a slightly off centre glance, as if he isn't paying attention. He is a perfect baddie for the Flash and man, does he ever look awesome! Same standard articulation and no accessories.

Finally, we have my favorite of the bunch, Owlman (Tomas Wayne Jr.). This figure is perfect in every way with nothing in the way of flaws. Done in his modern appearance, his head/helmet sculpt is right on and finished in two different tones of silver. His facial expression is very cold and calculating and does some serious justice to James Wood's character in Crisis on Two Eaths. The cape is made of a very soft plastic so it does not restrict the articulation too much; all of the different layers are sculpted and the separation at the bottom does not restrict the leg movement at all. The owl clasp is also a very nice touch. He has the ribbed cuff on his wrists and boot tops with an all new belt. The dark, dark blue color of his costume is superb and it has some nice, subtle washing and dry brush that brings some dimension to the muscle tone. Articulation is standard and Owlman got the only accessory within the set - an Owlarang.

So, there you have it! This is perhaps the most anticipated and best 5-pack Mattel has given DC fans since the lines launch in 2007. It features some of the best head sculpts I have ever seen and I must say, Owlman easily belongs in the Top 10 best DCUC figures to date! As with the Legion of Superheroes 12-pack, it appears this set may be due for release some time around August or September, so keep your eyes peeled. This will be the last of the DCUC Wal-Mart exclusives and seriously, you don't want to pass this set up!

While we await the release of this set, enjoy the attached photos supplied by our good friends over at The Fwoosh and I defy you to look at the Owlman shots and not hear James Wood's voice in your head discussing the possibility of alernate earths!... [Read More]

Thanks to our friends over at Rebelscum.com, we have some nice shots of another TVC Wave 7 piece, Jedi Padawan Barriss Offee. Again, this is a much needed update over the original figure released in 2002's Saga line. Original shots of this all-new figure showed it with a soft-goods cloak, but this was cancelled in favour of the sculpted plastic one. The new line, known as DC Universe Super Heroes, will begin in January, starting with 13 characters including all of the heavy hitters: Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Joker, Bane, Harley Quinn, and Lex Luthor.

The first sets and figures will be shown off at the Lego booth at San Diego Comic Con where there will be 3000 exclusive Batman and Green Lantern minifigures will be distributed to launch a promo that will take place throughout the duration of the year.

It was also stated that Lego will be launching new sets based on The Dark Knight Rises film scheduled to release next summer.... [Read More]

Hey Star Wars Fans! The Vintage Collection Wave 7 updates keep coming! Thanks once again to our friends over at Rebelscum.com, we have a great look at TVC Wave 7 ARC Trooper Commander (AKA : Captain Fordo)! A figure that has been done time and time again, Fordo uses the new Clone Trooper body, features some nice articulation and great accessories, including Phase 1 and Phase 2 helmets, a kama and shoulder pauldron, belt with holsters, 2 blaster pistols and a shoulder harness / belt/ holster addition. This is perhaps the coolest addition to TVC Wave 7 and, as with the Rebel Fleet Trooper, this figure is sure to fly off store pegs very quickly. So keep your eyes peeled! This is one awesome figure that you seriously don't want to pass up!

Thanks to Rebelscum.com for the awesome attached shots!... [Read More]

Hot on the heels of the news from earlier today of DC Comics getting Legofied we now have learned of yet another license joining up in the Lego camp.

Popular comics giant and entertainment powerhouse, Marvel, will be doing a Team-Up with Lego as well! Also part of Lego's Super Heroes line, the Marvel Lego sets, minifigures, and buildable characters will launch in May of 2012.

From the the press release:
The LEGO SUPER HEROES Marvel collection will spotlight three Marvel franchises – Marvel’s The Avengers movie, and X-Men and Spider-Man classic characters. The LEGO Marvel’s The Avengers movie line brings such ever popular Marvel characters as Iron Man, The Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Loki and Black Widow to LEGO minifigure form. The LEGO X-Men collection includes minifigure comic versions of Wolverine, Magneto, Nick Fury and Deadpool, while the LEGO Spider-Man sets offer minifigure comic versions of Spider-Man, and Doctor Octopus. The first buildable characters in the LEGO SUPER HEROES collection are highlighted by Captain America, The Hulk and Iron Man. Select figures will be unveiled in the LEGO booth (#2829) during Comic-Con International at the San Diego Convention Center July 21-24.

A May 2012 release puts this launch right around the time of the release of the much anticipated Avengers movie so expect the first Marvel Lego releases to be of the Avenger persuasion.... [Read More]
