Back in March we submitted select questions for the Hasbro Marvel 2011 Q&A. We have received the answers TODAY!

1) When hasbro invests in new part(s) tooling for an exclusive figure, can those parts be re-used in the main line to further the life of the new tooling? For example 2009's mail away Nick Fury head being re-used for a MAX Fury or a life model decoy (lmd) Fury?
A) We try to find as many uses as possible for all our tooling. But, we also have to keep it fresh. As with everything in life, it's important to try and keep a good balance.

2) What happened to the unreleased Iron Man 2 movie star 3 pack with Black Widow, Tony, and Rhodey with un-helmeted versions of themselves? Last we heard you were "working hard on bringing this to the fans" Will we see it in the armoured avengers line?
A) No you will not. Unfortunately, this item was dropped from the line. We will work to include these characters in future lines where possible.

3) Classic costumes on some heroes are ok, but it really bugged me when Toy Biz released characters like Luke Cage and Havok in costumes they had not worn in a over decade. Do you plan for the majority of your new Marvel Legends sculpts to reflect the Modern Heroic Age costumes?
A) We're always exploring every option and we love your input so keep the comments coming!

YOU HEARD THEM FOLKS KEEP THE COMMENTS COMING! Voice your opinions! Heroic Age? CLASSIC? WHAT. DO. YOU. WANT...for future Marvel releases by Hasbro? Let 'em be known!... [Read More]

Art Asylum has revealed that more Universal Monsters figures will be coming from Diamond Select Toys.

"Popular for going on 80 years now, the Universal Monsters are as undying in real life as they are in the movies. Since their debut, they’ve been reincarnated numerous times, through films, TV shows, model kits and especially toys, but their latest incarnation may be their most unspeakably beautiful. The Universal Select line of figures captures the world’s most famous monsters in the 7-inch scale Diamond Select has made popular, with incredibly detailed bases and accessories. But if the accessories aren’t as important to you, there’s a more bare-bones line of Universal Monsters for sale at Toys “R” Us, with a third figure not available anywhere else. Following up on Series 1’s Wolfman, Mummy and Creature from the Black Lagoon, we present Series 2, available in September 2011!"

Kotobukiya's Facebook Page has added some new photos. They are releasing a repaint of their DC Bishoujo Batgirl statue. The repaint shows her in an all black costume.

"A Kotobukiya Japanese import! The first DC Comics bishoujo-inspired statue is back by popular demand in a beautiful new color scheme, Batgirl Black Costume! The bishoujo collection combines DC’s superheroines and villains with traditional Japanese stylings. The classic and best known Batgirl first appeared in 1967, the alter ego of Gotham City police commissioner’s daughter Barbara Gordon. Brilliant and courageous, Batgirl helped defend the good citizens of Gotham City alongside her mentor Batman. Barbara’s return to the Japanese bishoujo “pretty girl” style (based on original character art by world famous illustrator Shunya Yamashita) sees her taking a darker turn with her other iconic costume.

Expertly trained by Bruce Wayne, Batgirl stops bad guys in their tracks with her sexy costume and alluring pose. As with the original bishoujo statue, every element of her classic bodysuit has been recreated from her tall boots to her bat-symbol, utility belt, gloves, cape, and cowl. But this time, instead of gray and blue Batgirl is clothed head to toe in inky black with bright gold highlights! There’s even a dynamic difference in the textures, with the matte finish of the heroine’s suit contrasting against her glossy cape and cowl. Barbara stands with one foot resting on a gargoyle, accentuating her long legs, while she slyly spins her cape in front of her. Batgirl’s long flowing red hair adds a powerful third color to the palette and helps draw the eye to her beautiful Bishoujo-styled face.

Sculpted by Atelier Bamboo, Batgirl is constructed of high-quality pvc plastic and stands approximately 9 inches tall (in 1/7 scale like all of the DC Bishoujo statues) with the exclusive Gotham City gargoyle base. Barbara looks great in black, and is the perfect companion to the previously released blue and gray version of Batgirl!

Available December 2011.

Kotobukiya's Blog has added some new detailed photos of their upcoming Marvel Bishoujo Fantastic Four Invisible Woman Statue. The statue is due out in July.

"A Kotobukiya Japanese import! The amazing Marvel Bishoujo collection (combining iconic superheroines and villains with traditional Japanese stylings) is back and better than ever with none other than the Fantastic Four’s own Invisible Woman! In that series’ first issue in 1961 Sue Storm was a member of Reed Richards’ doomed spaceflight that encountered cosmic radiation, imbuing the four humans onboard with strange abilities. With powers of invisibility and force field creation, Sue became the Invisible Woman (though at first she was the Invisible “Girl”) and a core member of the Fantastic Four! The team’s battles and triumphs over the years has made her into a top-notch superhero, beloved the world over, and now she comes to you in the Japanese Bishoujo (pretty girl) style based on an original character reinterpretation by illustrator Shunya Yamashita."

For you Mattel fans out there, we've got your bi-monthly fix of MattyCollector Q&A answers! For this round we attempted to get more Voltron info out of Mattel(HEY DO YOU GUYS WANT ROBEASTS? Just wondering...), asked about articulation differences on Green Lantern Movie Masters, a new Clayface, AND M-O-A-R!

1) With the new endoskeleton articulation utilized on DCUC Swamp Thing and Movie Masters Naut Kei Loi, are you willing to take another stab at DCUC Clayface with the new endoskeleton articulation?
A) We don’t have plans for another Clayface right now, but you never know what the future will bring.

2) The 1st Green Lantern Movie Masters seem to have preference to sculpt over articulation, as articulation is hindered on some figures(like on Hal Jordan's elbows and shoulders). With a substantial amount of figures still to come, will the later figures have more range of motion for their joints?
A) It will range figure by figure. These were choices made by our design group.

3) Will there be a DCUC secret society of super villains action figure gift set?
A) Sorry, we can not comment on unannounced figures or figures sets.

4) Will there be an elseworlds style crossover for DCUC and MOTUC anytime soon?
Nothing is planned at this time.

5) Are large-scale Robeasts to battle the upcoming combining Voltron toys, out of the question?
A) Noting is planned at this time. We’ll need to see how the SDCC item does before expanding the line!

This 2.5-inch, highly poseable mini-figure is based on Alice’s look from “Alice: Madness Returns,” and is the only Alice Minimate that will be produced! Sculpted by Diamond Select Toys and Art Asylum.

- Femme Fatales Alice PVC Statue - This new, darker repaint of the Femme Fatales 9-inch Alice statue offers another interpretation of how young Alice might have looked a decade or so after that first tumble down the rabbit hole. Sculpted by Sam Greenwell and limited to 100 pieces.

In addition to the box set, figure and statue, there will be four different individually bagged Minimates MAX figures given away throughout the show, while supplies last, as well as four Pirate Raiders Minimates that you can collect to create your own box set at the end of the weekend. A variety of Minimates and Femme Fatales posters will also be given away each day, and there will be a limited number of Minimate T-shirts available for sale at the Diamond Select Toys booth.

In addition to the above items, be on the lookout for a few other exclusive Minimate sets making their debuts on the show floor, as well as around the convention center!

Kotobukiya's Facebook Page has added photos of another new DC Comics Bishoujo Statue. This update reveals the DC Comics Evil Supergirl Limited Edition Bishoujo Statue.

"A Kotobukiya Japanese import! Coming this summer is a limited edition variant of one of the hottest DC Comics Bishoujo Statues yet! The hit line combining DC’s most beautiful female characters with traditional Japanese stylings has seen plenty of heroines, so it’s time to go bad with Evil Supergirl Limited Edition! While there have been various incarnations of the character throughout the years, the current one has taken the world by storm. Reintroduced to fans in 2004, Kara Zor-El is the Kryptonian cousin of Superman and has all of the same superpowers. In 2005’s Supergirl #5, Lex Luthor used a Black Kryptonite ray to create a duplicate, evil version of the heroic Supergirl. While the two would later re-assemble with the help of Wonder Woman, Kara’s evil alter ego gained instant fame for her bad attitude and sexy look. Evil Supergirl is based on a design by illustrator Shunya Yamashita, Japan’s leading bishoujo artist known for his art books, video game work, and multiple figural collaborations with Kotobukiya.

Based on the current “New Earth” version of the character and costume and inspired by Supergirl #5, Evil Supergirl arrives on the scene literally floating in the clouds! Dressed in her malevolent two piece black, silver, and vermilion outfit consisting of a very short skirt and midriff-baring top along with knee-length boots, the young Kryptonian proves that bad can look oh so good. Evil Supergirl flies on top of a small cloud formation, twisting to look behind her (and in the process showing off her long legs and just a peek at her silver panties). She’s even joined by an evil, black caped version of her faithful kitty companion Streaky the Supercat! Supergirl’s beautiful flowing blonde hair is further accented by translucent material, and perfectly frames her Bishoujo-styled face with new yellow eyes and dark makeup.

Constructed of high-quality pvc plastic and standing nearly 10 inches tall (in the ultimate 1/7 scale) as she floats on her exclusive base, Evil Supergirl was sculpted by Masahiro “Gill Gill” Takahashi. Limited to only 1,500 pieces (starting with a 360 piece early premiere at San Diego Comic-Con) this dark beauty won’t be around for long!

Available July 2011.

We've previously seen the standard edition of the Marvel Invisible woman Bishoujo Statue. Now Kotobukiya's Facebook Page has revealed a Marvel Invisible Woman SDCC 2011 Exclusive Bishoujo Statue.

"A Kotobukiya Japanese import! Kotobukiya is proud to present its convention exclusive for San Diego Comic-Con 2011, a new variant edition of the hit Marvel Comics Fantastic Four Bishoujo Statue: Invisible Woman SDCC 2011 Exclusive! In the first issue of Fantastic Four in 1961 Sue Storm was a member of Reed Richards’ doomed spaceflight that encountered cosmic radiation, imbuing the four humans onboard with strange abilities. With powers of invisibility and force field creation, Sue became the Invisible Woman (though at first she was the Invisible “Girl”) and a core member of the Fantastic Four! The first version of the character in the amazing Marvel Bishoujo collection (combining iconic superheroines and villains with traditional Japanese stylings) captured the character in her modern outfit with special translucent effects. Now Sue Storm is back again featuring her classic 1980s costume and some great special features, all based on an original character reinterpretation by illustrator Shunya Yamashita!

She may have the power to disappear from view, but the Invisible Woman is on full display here! The sultry Sue stands on her defeated opponent, shedding her protective force field and showing off with a jaunty pose. Casually walking toward you with one hand on her hip, the fantastic heroine points towards the sky with an all new hand gesture and shorter hair. The Invisible Woman is dressed in her traditional Fantastic Four costume, an ultra skintight bodysuit showing off all of her sexy curves in metallic blue and white with the team’s logo on her chest. This new costume looks incredible on her with a bright shimmer and excellent details down to the open fingers on her gloves. While she’s fully visible this time around, the force field shards around her are a nice nearly-translucent pale blue. The Invisible Woman’s strong pose and alluring figure are perfectly topped off by a beautiful Bishoujo-styled face that shows off her confidence and power after a tremendous battle!

Invisible Woman stands just over 9 inches tall (in the current Marvel Bishoujo 1/7th scale) on an amazing georama base depicting the hand of the gigantic green monster from the cover of Fantastic Four #1, “The Mole Man’s Monster!” This exclusive version is limited to just 500 pieces and will be available exclusively at San Diego Comic-Con 2011 and via limited pre-orders on www.kotous.com!

Available July 2011.

Greetings fellow Toyark'ers, we've got the answers for the 2nd round of Hasbro 2011 GI Joe Q&A! This batch of answers reveals the fate of the venerable Tomahawk(R.I.P.), and enlightens us on the upcoming Sky Striker XP21F!

1) During the last round of GI Joe Q&A, you confirmed that the WHALE mold was lost/destroyed. Is the Tomahawk mold gone for good too? It was arguably the most popular GI Joe helicopter ever made.
A) Sadly the original TOMAHAWK mold is lost/destroyed. It's a big shame considering its one of our childhood favorites too.

2) At JoeCon 2011 fans finally learned that the wings and landing gear of the Sky Striker were still interconnected like the original. A lot of fans were hoping that the wings would be able to sweep without retracting the landing gear. While this is not a deal breaker, why was the interconnected wing sweep/landing gear retraction function retained in lieu of keeping them separate?
A) The goal of the SKYSTRIKER 30th anniversary design was to re-create the SKYSTRIKER as closely as we could to the original. The cockpit design had to be revise to accomidate the larger sized figures. The wings needed to be detachable to meet new safety standards and to help with packaging. The rest of the plane was left to be as much of a replica as the original, landing gear linkage included.

3) While most fans do appreciate the increased cockpit detail in the Sky Striker XP-21F, they still crave a 2 seater. Has a 2 seat Sky Striker XP-21F, at the cost of substantially less cockpit detail/tooling, ever been taken into consideration, possibly for future releases or perhaps a running change?
A) The two seater was indeed considered, however, it would have been very very difficult to fit the second pilot in the cockpit. Luckily, the new cockpit is indeed modular and a new, two seater cockpit could be designer at a future date to accomidate two (albiet, very awkward) seated pilots. Currently, there are no plans to revise this design.

So what do you think folks, do you want a 2 seater Sky Striker?! Chime in, let us know, make your voices heard!... [Read More]
