Wow, I have personally been waiting to get a BTTF2 Hoverboard ever since my first stop at the Café 80’s. As a lifelong BTTF fan, getting to this official prop replica from Mattel has been a dream come true.

There have been a few top line questions about our amazing new prop replica, so I’d like to try and hit them all here. So what exactly does the Hoverboard do?

The Board will do pretty much everything the “real” Hoverboard does in the movie – except actually Hover.

It will be made of plastic and will house electronics, so as the board is “moved” (i.e., pushing it with your foot or kicking it across the floor) it will make all of the film accurate noises, including the “whoosh” and “buzzing” noises. All will be sampled directly from the original movie sound effects (provided by our amazing partners at Universal!). It will gently glide over most flat surfaces, but as hovering technology is not expected to be invented until 2015, it does not actually leave the ground.

The sound effects are being added in a very amazing way. The speaker vibrates the sound through the plastic giving it that film accurate organic magic (and preventing us from adding film inaccurate sound holes!)It really is an amazing sensation causing sound and just the right amount of humming as it detects side to side as well as forward and backward momentum. Pick it up and it will detect this as the board instantly turns off just like Marty's did!

If you have seen our award winning Ghostbusters PKE meter or Ghost Trap prop replicas, you will know the quality to expect. We are putting a huge amount of work into this to ensure it is the most accurate it can be. We’ll even be meeting with several members of the BTTF production crew, including screenwriter Bob Gale and special effects supervisor Michael Lantieri, who will be bringing the original props to Mattel so we can review them and ensure our replica is as accurate as possible.

While the Board is not designed to be a “ride on,” we are working to ensure it holds as much weight as possible as we know a lot of fans will want to stand on it. But it will not support weight to float around on across your floor (that technology simply hasn’t been invented yet!), but it will be the exact same size as the one Marty McFly rode in the films.

We know fans and customers are putting a lot of faith in Mattel by preordering an item you have not held or seen a working final model. But just know that your faith will be rewarded. By pre-ordering now you will guarantee the price of $120 and get an exclusive 6” Hoverboard for use on most Mattel 6” action figures. There will be a very small number of units available in the fall, but the price will be higher and it will not include the 6” Hoverboard. Officially transforming brick sets sometimes leave a lot to be desired. Sometimes it takes a fan to improvise and make things right. However, something like a VF1 Valkyrie from Macross? That, is a challenge! A video by Cuusoo contributor maxvf1 caught our eye recently, and well...see for yourself:



Here's his intent behind the model:

This is a model suggestion for VF-1 Valkyrie; the distinguished variable fighter from the TV animation "Space fortress Macross".
The Valkyrie is a highly admired pioneer of Japanese transforming robot. The first animation was broadcasted on TV back in 1982. It made a huge impact on both Japanese kids and adult fans alike with exceptional transformation capabilities of changing between the FIGHTER, GERWALK and BATTROID modes. Here I wish to recreate that same emotional ‘‘impact’’, through a single model offering that is able to transform into all 3 modes.

Notice that maxvf1 made the build itself modular, however, the completed model is "kanzen henkei"/perfect transformation(able to tranform without removing parts!". He even thought ahead and added in an optional/swappable heat shield, as well as a display stand! Even the Lego Cuuso Team took notice:

The first specialty-exclusive 4-pack due out this fall is based on The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Universal’s first film adaptation of the Victor Hugo novel, released in 1925. It starred Lon Chaney as the abused bellringer Quasimodo, a mute, half-deaf hunchback who lives in the famed Paris cathedral. In the film, Quasimodo is coerced into kidnapping the beggar Esmeralda, which runs him afoul of the smitten Captain Phoebus. That set’s characters include Quasimodo, Phoebus and the set-exclusive Esmeralda and “King of Fools” Quasimodo.

The second 4-pack is our long-awaited The Mummy set, based on the original Boris Karloff film. Released in 1932, The Mummy starred Boris Karloff as the resurrected mummy Im-Ho-Tep, who was entombed alive for attempting to revive a deceased princess. Now, passing as a modern Egyptian named Ardath Bey, he has found a woman who must be his love reincarnated. This set includes Im-Ho-Tep, his Sarcophagus, Princess Anck-es-en-Amon and the set-exclusive Helen Grosvenor.

There will also be an assortment of Universal Monsters two-packs available at Toys “R” Us, featuring some of the characters from these sets, as well as some exclusive characters. A Kotobukiya Japanese import! As one of the most popular comic book superheroes of all time, it’s no surprise that the Dark Knight has appeared quite frequently in Kotobukiya’s lineup of DC Comics ARTFX Statues. And now, Bruce Wayne is back in an incredible reimagining of one of the key scenes in Frank Miller’s masterpiece, The Dark Knight Returns: Batman - Hunt the Dark Knight! A four-issue miniseries released in 1986, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns tells the tale of a future world in which superheroes have retired. An older, angrier Bruce Wayne puts on the costume once again to save Gotham City and in the process encounters one of his most hated enemies, the Joker! Inspired by Miller’s gritty style, the duo presents a dark, dynamic vision that’ll look great on your shelf.

Frank Miller’s Dark Knight Returns Batman is much thicker and heavier than most representations of the character, and that’s quite apparent here. The bulky Dark Knight kneels over the prone Joker, holding him down with one hand on his collar while pulling the other back in preparation for the final strike! Perfectly recreating the artwork, the statue is intricately detailed with special attention to Batman’s powerful musculature, the rumpled clothing of the evil clown, the furious expression on the dark hero’s face, and of course Joker’s maniacal laughing. The painting too reflects Miller’s artwork with stark colors and bold strokes.

Sculpted by Junnosuke Abe, The Dark Knight Returns Batman VS Joker stands nearly 12 inches tall (1/6th scale) on a special display base that really shows off the action of the scene. Miller’s Dark Knight duo looks great on its own or alongside any of the other dynamic Batman statues from Kotobukiya like the Black Costume ARTFX Statue or the upcoming Batman Dark Knight Rises ARTFX Statue (sold separately)!
