Here at Toyark, we love us some Original Trilogy. While Hasbro gives a lot of love to the prequels and Clone Wars, sometimes us they toss us OT fans some huge bones, and honestly, today I had to do a double take.

While randomly strolling into Toys R Us today not at all knowing what to expect, I came across the Death Star Trench Run set. Who could forget the epic trench run from A New Hope where Luke blew up the Death Star? We 1st showed you this set at San Diego Comic Con 2011.

The set includes the following figures(they look like VOTC/Saga Legends repaints):
  • X Wing Pilot Luke Skywalker
  • R2D2
  • Darth Vader
Vader's TIE Advanced X1 Starfighter looks like a repaint of previously released versions, the canopy hatch still has hollow gaps. However, Luke's Red 5 X Wing was a complete surprise, as it's a newly retooled version!

While the wings and body look the same mold-wise as the previous Wedge/Luke/Red Leader X Wings(sold exclusively at Target and Toys R Us respectively), the cockpit and nose have been retooled. The cockpit now has a removable dashboard with attached joy stick. In addition, a retractable targeting computer is now in the cockpit. The front landing gear skid also has an opening door. That's not all, a retractable proton torpedo is now built into the underside of the nose! Perhaps this can now be looked at as the definitive Hasbro X Wing.

I mentioned doing a double take because of this set. 1st, the retooled X Wing was a pleasant surprise. Secondly; the price: $99.99. Yeah...do what I did, just stare at the box, which you can do after the jump!... [Read More]

One of the advantages of living in the Philippines aside from the food is the fact that sometimes, items are available earlier due to the closer proximity to Asia. Toyark board member koolas' recent haul is a shining example of this: he just got his hands on Marvel Universe Wave 16! Featuring a mix of repaints, and retooled figures, this wave features some long awaited additions to the Marvel Universe line.

Harry Potter and Transformers toys ruled the market over the summer. Toy News Online reports that, of all this summers licensed toys, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 toys took 19.12% of the market. Transformers: Dark of the Moon was second and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was a close third.

Unsurprisingly, comic properties like Thor, X-Men and Green Lantern failed to make much of a dent. Just check your toy store shelves for proof. Some properties, like Captain America didn't even make the top 10.

Dubit finds out which licensed toys from this summer's movies were popular with children aged seven to 11 over the school holidays…

Our research shows that although children are still enjoying playing with toys from their favourite films, a box office smash doesn't always result in a hit toy. However, the children most likely to opt for film merchandise are seven year olds.

Of the children that played with Cars branded toys, the most engaged were seven year olds and 11 year olds (28 per cent and 18 per cent respectively).

The most popular licensed toys with young children (seven to eight year olds) were Cars and Pirates of the Caribbean (42 per cent), followed by Kung Fu Panda (40 per cent).

Harry Potter topped our chart, helped by being popular among all age groups, with seven year olds being the least engaged.

As the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was the final film in the ten-year series, it could be a little late for this age group to become fans of the franchise.

Despite Transformers: Dark of the Moon being rated 12A, the toys were chosen by seven year olds more than any other age group in the sample. This indicates that many seven year olds saw the film with parents or simply found the idea of a transforming toy appealing, regardless of the associated film.

The comic book category, which includes Thor, Green Lantern and X-Men, was the least popular in our survey. These brands had relatively poor box office takings and were more popular with the higher age brackets, so these two factors could explain the lack of popularity amongst younger children.

Of the nine films surveyed, five were from franchises that were new or only up to their first sequel. From these, particular credit can go to Cars 2, Tangled and Kung Fu Panda 2, which managed to compete with the more established franchises.

With 52 per cent of children stating that they haven’t played with any licensed movie toys this summer, it would seem that these brands aren’t necessarily a guaranteed money-maker for the toy industry. This is especially true with the older children who, it could be suggested, are more attracted to the video game equivalents.

Check out TheFwoosh's review of the amazing 6" Young Justice Red Arrow figure. In my opinion, this is the best of the 6" Young Justice figures we've seen to date!

Red Arrow features all the usual articulation DC fans have come to know and love on the majority of Mattel's 6" figures and comes complete with a bow, four arrows and a quiver as well as a display base.

What is really nice about this piece is that it corrects the mistake made with DCUC Wave 9 Green Arrow and allows the unused arrows to be stored in the quiver.

All in all, this is an awesome figure that does a great job paying homeage to its cartoon counterpart. Hopefully the Wave 20 Speedy figure will be just as good!

Art Asylum has revealed photos of the upcoming Green Goblin Marvel Select figure. there's also a mini Q and A with DST Chuck about the figure.

Diamond Select Toys recently revealed the figure that will follow Colossus in their 7-inch-scale Marvel Select line, and it’s the Green Goblin, longtime Spidey foe and mainstay of the Marvel Universe. While he won’t be out until summer of 2012, we thought we’d sit down with DST director Chuck Terceira to find out how the figure came into being.

This figure is based on an earlier Art Asylum statue, correct? What prompted you to revisit those pieces?
DSTChuck: Robert Yee and I wanted to bring some of the designs we did for the old
Art Asylum-DST Marvel statue line into the Marvel Select line. We’d designed
a lot of those statues as “moment on the page,” as if we were people in
the Marvel Universe coming face-to-face with one of these heroes or
villains. With that in mind, we tried to provide our own detailed,
realistic interpretation of each character, rather than attempting to
reproduce a 2-D artist’s work — our Lizard bust referenced
more zoology books than actual Marvel Comics.

How did you choose the Goblin out of all of those great pieces?
DSTChuck:
We’d had requests
for more villains in the Select line, and looking at what we’d done in
the statue line, one that jumped out at us was Eli Livingston’s Green
Goblin sculpt. He’s on his Goblin Glider, breaking through a cloud of
smoke, and the muscles in his face are pulled back, like he’s moving
really fast. We’d already done a Green Goblin, but that figure felt more
like an accessory to the unmasked Spider-Man he came with — it was a
Spidey figure set, not a Goblin figure. So we set about converting the
statue to toy form, adding a full range of articulation, but keeping the smoke as a support for the glider and
 keeping his crazy, demonic appearance.

Something people have commented on is the two different greens on the Goblin prototype. What was the reasoning behind that?
DSTChuck:
We wanted
to differentiate between the material of his armor and the material of
his mask. They’re clearly two different materials — one is rubber, the
other is scaled metal — so we made them slightly different greens. The
final product may see the greens coming closer together, but they won’t
 be exactly the same green.

Month 1 of our Toyark Experience beta project has come to a close, and we have our winners!

First place goes to CLASSIFIED - who won a MISB Marvel Universe Sentinel.

Second place went to thechris who won a Transformers Reveal the Shield Wreck Gar.

Third Place went to omega145 who had the choice of grabbing a Transformers Reveal the Shield Warpath or G2 Prime, but declined to accept the toys.

October is already underway, and the grand prize for this month is a G.I. Joe Sky Striker. Second and Third place prizes will be announced with the winners on November 1st.

For those that don't know or remember, the Toyark Experience Activity score is looked at on the first of each month, and the top 3 active users at that time win free stuff.

The members who won last month are not eligible this month, so it's wide open again.

Plus - the score is calculated based on the last 30 days of activity only, so you don't have to be a veteran or previous regular to try your luck. All you need to do is sign up, and post regularly, and you could win this month! "Activity" is calculated by looking at the average posts per day, combined with consecutive days online. Be online every day, logged in, and post a lot, and that's it!

Thanks for visiting, good luck in October!... [Read More]

Alright folks, due to New York Comic Con later this month, the MattyCollector crew won't be having Q&A answers for October 15th. However we've gotta get questions for November 1st in by October 15th, so feel free to post your questions now!

Anyways, last month we submitted a set of @questions for both rounds but didn't receive our 1st set of answers-until now! So we've got 10 questions and answers for you right here!

With the "New 52" having already started, which do we have a higher chance of seeing 1st in the DCUC line, Dick Grayson Batman or the "new" Bruce Wayne Batman?
You'll have to stay tuned for our announcements and reveals!

The poll for the Infinite Earths subscription exclusive winner was Metron. Does this exclude the others included in the poll from being made, or was the poll to decide which of these figures was going to be the subscription membership exclusive, while the rest were planned for full club release?
The poll decided the figure that would be the club exclusive. The other oversized figures could come to life as the oversized offering in 2012 or in the future.

Since DCUC as we know it is ending at retail, and being continued in the form of the Infinite Earths subscription club, have we seen the last of the two-packs that served as a popular way to reissue older or rare figures? Would such sets, like Mad Love continue on as store exclusives as they have, or would sets of new characters continue on as matty exclusives, such as the Color of Fear was? Or are they done, altogether?
We are planning some 6" multi-packs for retail for 2012, so be on the lookout for those packs next year!

Since DCUC has started to incorporate double jointed knees and elbows, will those joints be incorporated in future Batman Legacy Movie Masters?
The Legacy figures in Spring 2012 will continue to have the same articulation as they have in 2011.

What has a higher chance of making its way to retail sooner, Dick Grayson as Batman, or the redesigned Bruce Wayne Batman from the "New 52"?
We know that fans love Batman, so both of those choices are on the table!

We realize that the 80's MOTU designs are classic and therefore more memorable, but is there a specific reason why the 2002 designs will not be homaged? Those were arguably some of the Horsemen's best sculpts, and seeing them fully articulated is a dream for some fans.
The Classics line is a new design for the MOTU brand. Both 200X and Classics are different interpretations of the same original vintage toys, but Classics is separate from the 200X look. You will see some "classic-sized" versions of 200X weapons and armor in the Classic line, but not direct 200X sculpts with the unique design look for 200X that is now retired.

For fans on a budget who want a COMBINING Voltron and cannot afford the 23 inch Club Lion Force Voltron, will there be a more affordable, transformable alternative? The 6" SDCC Voltron is affordable but cannot combine, and let's face it, the fun in Voltron for many fans IS the combination aspect!
We have a lot more exciting Voltron product in the works. Nothing to announce right now but stsy tuned!

Are the Voltron Force 3-3/4" figures a template of future DC Infinite Heroes figures should the DCIH line return someday?
Currently they are not a template for any future line, other than Voltron. They were created specifically for this universe and will remain there since they are unique sculpts and not common tooled, like the DCU figures.

How many scales will be used for the Voltron Classics line? So far we've seen the 6" figure from SDCC, and the upcoming 2.5ft tall Club Lion Force Voltron.
Currently those are the only 2 scales we are planning on doing for the Voltron Classic product. Down the line who knows…What other scales would the fans like to see???

With the WWE line already going for almost 2 years now, do you think the time is right to implement pectoral articulation into the Elite and Legends figures? It would make posing them in submission moves substantially easier.
We have been thinking about pectoral articulation for a while now, but it poses a few challenges. For one it is more expensive, and we are doubtful most people will want to pay extra for it. Since we have so many unique torsos (especially in Elite) upgrading them all would be a massive investment. Also, we have caught a lot of flack from collectors that don't like the loss of detail from the ab crunch. While we have no intention of taking the ab crunch out, we know that adding the pec movement would break up the flow of the figure. It is a tradeoff between appearance and movement. So it would be unlikely for all of the figures to switch over, but perhaps in the future we will do a line or sub segment with the added articulation... [Read More]

Kotobukiya has updated their Facebook Page with new photos and info for their upcoming Captain America Classic Avengers Fine Art Statue.

Created in 1941 by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby to represent opposition to Nazi Germany, Captain America combined superhero stories with patriotism and the fight against oppression in the world. From humble beginnings as a physically weak young man, Steve Rogers attempted to join the United States military service to combat the threat in Europe. Recruited into a secret “Super-Soldier” program, Rogers was given a serum and radiation that transformed him into a paragon of human athleticism. With a red, white, and blue costume and special aerodynamic shield, Captain America burst onto the superhero scene. Rogers would team up with other heroes and fight alongside the Avengers on multiple occasions, and it’s that heroic inspiration that drives his latest appearance: Captain America Classic Costume! Coinciding with the upcoming Avengers film in 2012, this series celebrates the classic versions of some of Marvel’s greatest heroes.

Captain America stands tall as a symbol of freedom and democracy, ever vigilant in the face of opposition. Perched on top of a rocky outcrop, Steve Rogers surveys the field of battle before him while ready to spring into action. His classic uniform has been painstakingly recreated with its suit, boots, belt, textured shirt, gloves, and cowl with the prominent “A” and tiny wings. The red, white, and blue color scheme is resplendent, and your eye will be drawn to the bright white stars on Cap’s chest and back as well as the striped red and white of his midsection. Of course, secured to Rogers’ right arm is his trusty shield, and it has never looked better! Captain America makes for a truly imposing and heroic image, and it’s made even better by offering you a choice in how you want to display him. Included with the statue are two heads so your Cap can wear his cowl or go bare-headed as Steve Rogers!

The classic Captain America stands a stately 15 inches tall (1/6 scale), and has been sculpted by artist Erick Sosa. His rocky terrain base matches those on the other Classic Avengers, the previously released Thor and the upcoming Iron Man! Collect your classic Avengers team just in time for the new film.
