Vintage Bengali Variations
To my fellow vintage variation collectors.......
I am in need of some information with regards to my recently purchased Bengali's. I noticed today that they are slightly different and would like to know more about these variations. Where they come from? How rare are they. The variations are as follows. 1) B1 has a white moulded head with blue paint, B2 has a blue moulded head with white paint. 2) The blue body moulds are also different in colour, one is darker than the other. 3) B1 has LJN signature on Left foot and B2 has LJN signature on Right foot. I have compared the figures to the Playful Bengali's but it does not correspond. Is this perhaps the difference between US/UK Bengali versions? Which one is rarer or more valuable. Any help and clarification in the matter is greatly appreciated. Devinebull |

You managed to sort out pics Tcats4life?
|
been trying not familiar with doing it having trouble :(

mmm the plot thickens .... Yours is a blue moulded head painted white... However the foot stamp has number 1 on yours compared to mine with a number 2...I have been chatting to a variations expert on another Thundercats collectors site and they have explained this to me....
The blue moulded head with with white paint is a European mainland variation, and the white moulded head with blue paint is the USA/United Kingdom Variation. However there are also variations in each variation category. Some USA/UK variations have EL stamped under the foot. Also you have shown me that your European variation has number 1 stamped not 2 like my one. Here is a question to any experts out there...What do these numbers signify? What is EL short for and why is the European version slightly smaller in build compared to the USA/UK variation? Should they not be moulded from the same mould ? |
I will shortly upload pics of my 2 complete Jaga's for comparison. They too have variations...would love to see more pics of any variations you collectors have out there. I dont think a collection is complete unless you have all these variations collected.....

Here are Jaga's variations I have managed to collect so far. Again J1 is slightly larger than J2. J1 has EL stamped under his foot and J2 does not. You will also notice that the colour of the body mould is darker than the other. The head moulds also are different.....

Nice variation tcat4life. Be sure to post new pics when you get the hammer of truth.

I reckon that this is a fake as there are 1 sided moulded fakes out there. You will notice the mould looks warped like its been under the heat. I hope this seller is not implying its real ? Have you asked ? Would be interesting.... PS there are some sellers on the internet that are able to make exact copies but because of copyright they are moulded and then painted to look the colour as a normal one. The get away with it because its a ''custom'' job... |

No its the real deal. The most prized Bengali and rarest! If not mistaken Argentinian in origin. The show producers gave the company ''Playful'' permission to make these figures for the South American market. The body is from Tygra mould however the paint job is different than the standard 2 variations. I feel it is a more striking paint job and I love the hammer!
I have attached a pic to compare.... If anyone has one of these (complete-loose) I am willing to pay big time! |
So hes a Tygra repaint????

Well thats what I have read doing some research into variants, but after seeing your pics I will have to retract that part of the statement. Let me correct my statement. The Playful Bengali is a retooled LJN Tygra and comes with a smaller axe like silver hammer.
