Thundercats 2011 Variants...

2 Attachment(s)
I was at Toys R Us today and finally got a Grune figure...however I think it's a variant. The chest doesn't have a Mumm-Ra symbol it has a Thundercats one. I took some photos of it.

Saint Phe 08-31-2011 07:00 AM

Whoa! That would be the first variant I've heard about!

Same here. And it would start a whole new collecting hunt for some people.

Blade Raider 08-31-2011 11:03 AM

Finding one figure that has different paint apps (or box for that matter) does not make it a variant. That makes it a factory error. It has to either be confirmed by the company or wide spread enough to count as a variant.

Kregermeister 08-31-2011 11:30 AM

Finally someone else has the same. I did some research and no one knew what I was talking about. A rep at bandai said it must have been a very small error as the official Grune has the Mumm-Ra logo.

Cool! Thanks for the info! Good to know that it's rare for sure!

It may not be variant than but it is indeed valuable yesssss......

Thundercat4Life 08-31-2011 03:30 PM

Was there more Grune there to see if they had same variant???

I've been scouring Walmarts, Targets, Toys R Us, and others and he's the only one I've come across like this.

Grune the Warrior 08-31-2011 04:00 PM

I've been to 10+ Walmarts and 5 TRUs and only seen Grune once, period. His logo is the normal Mumm-ra design. That error Grune is cool and someone would probably pay a pretty penny for it.

Thundercat4Life 08-31-2011 04:39 PM

I offer 50 bucks if you wanna sell it?

LordLionO 08-31-2011 04:54 PM

Have yet to seen Grune at all in stores (Bought mine online). Definitely a very cool find though!

RichardC 09-01-2011 12:03 AM

Actually as of right now, we have the only 2 reported in existence. VERY rare and VERY valuable.

I appreciate the offer but once an item is within my clutches it rarely escapes.

its only valuable to those who want to pay alot for it.

personally...Its a factory defect. I wouldnt want it.

I agree, it is cool because it is a variant, but I would prefer the original in my collection then the wrong/defect one.

Saint Phe 09-01-2011 10:09 AM

I don't really want it, but it's definitely not a defect or error. It's show accurate.

uhh...no its not. he didnt get that armor until after he joined forces with Mumm-Ra.

and the armor he had when he made his appearance had a blank red circle and the armor was different.

They're not going to give us a whole new set of armor. This is an easy way to give us a Thundercat version of him.

correct, however some collectors pay anything to be a completeist. motu fans have a bank roll like no other and sometimes pay like 10 times a amount just cause a shade of paint! I myself have paid insane amounts for thundercat varients

Joe Moore 09-01-2011 11:29 AM

Thanks for the pics.

Thundera 09-01-2011 12:26 PM

This is the grune I WANT!! It would be a amazing variant!

Really depends on how you use the term. If used as a name for their race, than he'll always be a Thundercat, but if used as a name for their allegiance, than he was a Thundercat, but has betrayed them, and thus is no longer a Thundercat. If that makes sense...

quoted from the Crew of Omens Blogs - the designers.

Quote:

Thundercats are heroes.

Thunderians are citizens of Thundera.

Grune is currently neither. He used to be both until he chose to go with Mumm-Ra and the forces of evil. Even when he went to search for the Book of Omens with Panthro as a thundercat, his armor was different then the armor he has on now and on the toy.

they look nothing alike....so to say it is a variant with the thundercats symbol is crazy. Its a totally different outfit. so for Bandai to slap a thundercats logo on the Evil Grune Armor is just stupid and totally inconsistant with the show.

imo, still a freakish factory error.

Shenlon 09-01-2011 01:13 PM

If I saw one in store I would pick it up just for kicks , but I am not paying some whack a doo price for it. I am just as happy with my regular Grune.

and I am not sure it is a variant or error , he never appeared in the show with the symbol on his chest.

Maybe down the road there will be a twist and Grune will join the Thundercats lol and this is an early spoiler

Saint Phe 09-01-2011 01:20 PM

Doesn't matter what he is currently, or even what armor he wore when. He used to be a hero, and this simple deco variation represents that point without Bandai having to make a whole new figure.

Pianofighter 09-01-2011 06:18 PM

I have yet to see a Grune in any store around here!

flywheels 09-02-2011 09:57 AM

I think it's kind of cool myself, but I'm happy w/ the "corrected" version.

Devinebull1978 09-02-2011 10:35 AM

Sorry to discuss vintage variants, but I need some info regarding vintage Bengali variants. I have 1 Bengali with head moulded in white painted blue and another head moulded in blue painted white. Which one is rarer and where does each variant come from....please help.

Dedboy 09-03-2011 08:11 PM

If anyone spots one of these at retail and doesn't want it, or finds an extra one, could you pick it up for me? PM me if you have one and I'll get you the money to cover item cost and shipping(plus a bit for your time)! I'd really appreciate it!!! :]

Haha thats funny. So whats up with all the packaging errors with this toy line? From what I can remember this hasn't been an issue in a long time, and never this bad.

Nah, I collect alot of lines and this happens in just about all of them.

same. and really we have only seen a handful of errors (less then 12). seems pretty good considering how many thousands of figures they produced.

I just want more store chains than TRU to carry the deluxes. There isn't a TRU in my area so I'm outta luck for Grune who is the only deluxe I want. I occassionally get to visit a TRU in Huntsville but they are moving so stocking is a moot point and the TRU I get to visit once in awhile in Memphis seems to have all of them BUT Grune...This line reminds me of as a kid when GI Joe started and there were only 2 Cobra figures and I wanted more villains. There are only 3 so far in Thundercats and I have two of them but I WANT GRUNE:mad:

nomad16 09-06-2011 07:25 PM

I havent bought a grun figure yet and if this is really rare I might pick one up very cool!

Jlogano20 09-08-2011 02:26 PM

i cant find any grune figures anywhere hes the only 1

decepticat 09-08-2011 02:32 PM

Gave up and ordered one from TRU since they seem to be the cheapest overall online. Figure the extra 7 bucks I spent for him easily could have been spent with just one hunting trip for him. This way no more hunting for him, he's coming to me. Now to start saving for the Thundertank :}

moondog 09-08-2011 02:58 PM

No kidding I want a grune bad can't find him anywhere it's driving me crazy

shimey013 09-08-2011 03:40 PM

Thats crazy but pretty sure thats a factory error.. Best way to figure it out is contact Bandai and ask them if there are variants...Usually though if its a variant they would show up more often too..

Screamer52488 09-08-2011 05:41 PM

I just came back from Toys R Us and found Grune with the Thundercats logo! I guess that brings the total to 3. It's a small pain to post pics but I can if someone needs me to. They just restocked the deluxes and the only Grune there was the Cats logo version. I have one of each now.

TheCopperkid 09-10-2011 09:25 PM

just checked mine after seeing this and i got mine at TRU as well, luckily i opened the one from amazon because the packaging was bad. here's a pic.

Slithe 09-10-2011 10:53 PM

My guess is that it is NOT a factory error and is in fact a variant. Happy hunting!

Actually, it can be both. Most variants are intended (and the company is usually are happy to tell people about it), but every so often an error is made so many times it becomes a variant.

Case in point, this guy right here:
YOJOE.COM | Sgt. Stalker
The first variant was confirmed by Hasbro to be a factory error.
